March 31, 2015 age 5 while practicing for Baseball my dad introduced tennis to me on this day. I was an All-Star playing little league in baseball with the boys. However, my dad kept me playing tennis for some reason, while my mom allowed me to play various sports including basketball, soccer, and Ice skating. Basketball was one of my dad’s favorites but for some reason he never pushed me to play basketball.
A few years later while competing vs the boys at the Southeast Tennis Center in Washington DC, one of the boys would say after I smashed a forehand winner “Laylah why you got to hit the ball so hard”? Now, I see why I hit the ball so hard, because I was practicing baseball first before I put the racket in my hand. I was working from both sides of the plate as a switch hitter in baseball. So once I started hitting the tennis balls I was swinging for the fences. However, I had to gain control of my forehand and backhand but when I hit the overhand smash shot, watch out everyone on the other side because I still hit that shot extremely hard!
I read you story it was great!
Thank you so much
